HoardPro - Double Sided Solid Timber Permanent Fencing

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Challenge

The Trafford Centre required a double-sided timber fence to separate its car park from a woodland area designated for development into an event space. Due to the woodland’s Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs), concrete foundations were not permitted, as they could damage tree roots and contaminate the ground. Ground screw foundations were specified as a sustainable, non-intrusive alternative.

The Solution

Fence-Lok proposed the use of Hoard-Pro foundations paired with bespoke flat plate clamps to securely fix the timber rails and front vertical hit-and-miss boarding. This solution delivered several key benefits:

  • A sustainable foundation that protected tree roots and prevented ground contamination.
  • High load resistance to ensure stability and durability for the double-sided timber structure.
  • Flexible fixing options to accommodate the bespoke design of the timber boarding.

To ensure the solution met all requirements, we provided site-specific wind load calculations alongside on-site horizontal load testing. This process clarified ground conditions across the woodland perimeter, ensuring the foundations were fit for purpose while complying with environmental restrictions.
